Awareness: The First Step in Setting and Maintaining Healthy Boundaries with Clients

Setting and maintaining healthy boundaries with clients is an important topic. But we don’t talk about it enough as freelancers.

For a relationship to be healthy, it needs to be balanced. Each side must feel like they’re getting value out of the relationship. No party is superior to the other. Each is just as important.

Makes sense in theory, right?

But in practice, it’s rarely this way. Think about some of the poor (even toxic!) client relationships you’ve had. Relationships where the client was demanding, unapologetic, and difficult to work with.

They made you feel inferior, as if they had the upper hand. They were in control and you had to cave in to their requests.

That’s a classic example of an unbalanced relationship — one that had no boundaries. It’s an extreme example. But even client relationships that aren’t this extreme can still be unbalanced.

Why? Because of a lack of boundaries.

At the end of the day, it’s up to you to set and maintain strong boundaries with clients. And in this video, I’ll show you where this process starts.
