Having your own business is the best self-improvement program on Earth.
You see… self-improvement is baked into freelancing. No one else can pick up the slack. It’s only you!
So, in order for your business to improve, you have to improve.
And one great way to get better is to be more grateful for everything you have in your business and in your life.
We All Have a Something to Be Grateful For
Being a business owner makes you more aware of all the blessings in life.
It’s harder to take things for granted.
Or at least that’s been my experience.
When I started my own business, I started to feel grateful for things I hadn’t given much thought to before. (But at the same time, I had to slow down enough to recognize them.)
I started to feel grateful for having a roof over my head.
For clean water.
A safe neighborhood.
My health.
Not worrying about where my next meal will come from.
Not having to report to a boss I can’t stand.
Fresh air.
The ability to take an afternoon off when it’s finally nice outside.
A Small Exercise in Gratitude
If you take a moment, you’ll realize you have a lot to be grateful for as well.
So, try this little exercise:
Close your eyes and think of three things you’re grateful for.
Allow yourself to really feel the gratitude.
Soak in it for a while.
Then, as you go about your day, catch yourself doing things that you take for granted. In that moment, take a couple of seconds to give thanks.
For example, when you get something to eat from the fridge, give thanks.
When you turn up the thermostat in your office, give thanks.
When you hug your children, give thanks.
When you get a drink of clean water.
When you hug your partner.
When you connect with someone in another part of the world.
Gratitude Leads to Greater Happiness
The more grateful you are, the happier you will be.
You’ll experience less stress and be more present in your world.
So, don’t forget to experience and express gratitude for those small, everyday moments.
