#254: How to Command Higher Fees for Blog Posts

Late last year, I spoke with Kaleigh Moore, a highly successful freelance writer.

Kaleigh’s target market is SaaS and e-commerce companies. And most of the work she does for these companies is blogging.

I was a bit surprised when she told me this, because blogging tends to be low-paying work. But Kaleigh fully understands why she’s able to buck this low-pay trend.

In today’s short podcast episode, I share the four big reasons why she commands strong fees for her blog posts.

If the bulk of your work is writing blog posts—and you’re struggling to charge good fees—you won’t want to miss this episode.

The notes that follow are a very basic, unedited summary of the show. There’s a lot more detail in the audio version. You can listen to the show using the audio player below. Or you can subscribe in iTunes to get this show delivered straight to the Podcasts app on your smart phone, tablet or iPod.

Kaleigh Moore listed four reasons why she can command such strong fees for her blog posts.

  1. Her clients are strategic

Her clients know what they want to achieve with their blog posts. It’s not just filler; they have specific goals.

  1. Her clients value her expertise

Kaleigh has been in the SaaS and e-commerce space a while. Her clients need a writer with this expertise who can hit the ground running.

  1. Her clients want quality content

They want high quality, SEO-optimized, long-form content. Kaleigh can deliver.

  1. Kaleigh has a deep network of professionals and contacts

Kaleigh brings her own network to the equation. She can tap her network when she needs insights or interviews, or simply needs to run an idea by someone.

The value of these four elements can extend well beyond blog post writing and apply to any project.

So the lesson here isn’t that one type of project will always pay more or less than another type.

The lesson is that you can stand apart from other writers by focusing on what matters to the best clients in your target market.

And you can do it regardless of what type of content you’re creating.
